HDD PCB Firmware Transfer
We have already introduced some important HDD PCB components and parameters such as “Board Number”, “Main Controller Chip” and “White Label Number”, etc. To find a matching replacement circuit board, we only need to match these numbers, but to repair the PCB, we also need to swap the BIOS chip on the circuit board. The BIOS chip is also called the “ROM” chip or the “NV-RAM” chip. Some important information (PCB firmware) of the hard disk is stored in this chip. We should to swap the BIOS chip to make the hard disk be recognized by the computer.
The BIOS chip is an 8-pin chip (4 pins on each side). It is easy to find. We will mark the BIOS chip for each board we shipped out. This operation is not complicated and can be completed in a few minutes.
A few hard disk boards do not have a BIOS chip. The firmware is stored in the “Main Controller Chip”. This transfer operation usually requires a professional to complete.
HDD PCB firmware transfer tools: Hot air gun, tweezers, etc.
